First go to the INTRODUCTION page and get an understanding of what this Webquest is all about, explore the site. Learn a little bit about the person that created this project by exploring the ABOUT ME page, get an understanding of what you are going to be doing by looking over the grading rubric on the Friday extension under the PROCESS page, check out the EXAMPLES page for some ideas of what you will be creating, and feel free to look through the day by day process.
After you have an understanding of what you will be creating get into groups of three or four students.
Think about your favorite songs. Feel free to tell me your favorite song by posting in our classroom blog. In your groups discuss how these songs reflect your cultural identity. Here are some questions to think about:
Why is it your favorite song?
What do the lyrics mean to you?
What do you think the lyrics mean to the artist?
How does this reflect your culture (maybe the song reflects on the activities you are involves in or your belief system)?
Have you watched the music video for this song? How did that reflect on the artists culture? Did it change the meaning of the song? Did it help you better undertand the lyrics?
One of my favorite songs is "Stand Up" by the Flobots
The lyrics of this song relate to my cultural identity, I believe in standing up for what you believe in and giving back to those less fortunate. This song also reflects on the fact that life is not always perfect and often contradicts itself, but it's still worth fighting for, and that is something I identify with.
Tomorrow you will be creating music with your group using an app called Audacity. If any of you have instruments at home that you would want to use to create this music remember to bring them in on Tuesday. Maybe you could even ask your music teacher about borrowing instruments.
Download the free app known as Audacity on your iPads. If you have time check out Tuesdays YouTube videos on how to use Audacity and explore the app.
